For fully automatic recurring inspections
Arctic Robotics Indoor Drone Platform is an ideal tool for industrial inspections. In automatic mode it works tireless repeating planned flight routes and inspecting its target with selected sensors. In manual mode it can be used for one-time inspections without risk of collisions.
Arctic Robotics indoor drone is complete different device than outdoor drones, similarities are only in form factor. The drone uses lasers instead of GPS, compass, and barometer to measure its position, orientation and altitude. The system works equally in bright daylight and total darkness.
Lasers have max range of 40 meters, meaning that the drone needs to have static reference points like walls or pillars within that range to get positioning data. Maximum flight altitude is also limited by laser range in closed indoor spaces, but in open spaces like chimneys barometer can be used to fly at much higher altitudes.
The drone uses combination of lasers and ultrasonic sensors for obstacle detection and avoidance in all directions, including up and down. Full obstacle avoidance is in use both in automatic and manual flight mode.
